Project Scope:

Ward Design Group assisted the Architect in designing a new main stage theatre and drama classroom/black box theatre as part of an extensive renovation and addition of the existing 1922 high school.

Roosevelt High School has the only full time drama program in the Seattle School District, offering eight periods of drama per day including acting, directing, technical theatre program with four private voice teachers, a vocal director and a choreographer for the yearly musical. Named one of the top ten high school theatre programs of America in 1996, Roosevelt Theatre has created world class, internationally recognized model for theatre education

The new 742–seat main stage theatre offers a full-sized stage with sprung floor for choreography, fully rigged stage, full depth orchestra pit, orchestra shell, and computerized stage lighting control. The auditorium also includes pipe chambers for the 1940 Moller pipe organ that is being refurbished for the high school.

The Drama Classroom/Black Box Theatre is 39–by–43 feet with a lighting grid at 16 feet. The room offers flexible audience arrangements for up to 100 seats. The space also has an elevated lighting and sound control booth.

A new scene shop, dressing rooms, trap room, and offices support the new main stage and classroom/black box theatre.
