Ward Design Group provided architectural consulting and the design of technical systems for the renovation of a 453 seat middle school theatre.
As a part of a complete renovation and addition to the 1920’s Central School in Whitefish, the school district undertook a thorough renovation and upgrading of the theatre. Over the years a number of changes had been made to the theatre, including the conversion of the balcony into offices and addition of a catwalk. We restructured the entire seating to make sightlines work for the new extended forestage and added lighting and sound control rooms at the rear of the auditorium. Because of the limited height and wingspace, WDG replaced the outdated hemp–line rigging with a computerized motorized rigging system. New catwalks and lighting systems were added to create a fully functional, modern multi–use theatre space for school and community uses.
The Central School Auditorium has become the home to the Alpine Theatre Project.
